The LED Display – Presenting A Flawless Performance

Why use an LED Display

Even though technology has greatly evolved over recent years, it is still in its infancy in terms of how people understand its possibilities and use outside of China. An LED display is highly engaging and can be used in any scenario whether it be indoors or outdoors, that can easily grab the viewer’s attention with its bright colours, wide viewing angles and unlimited design possibilities. With pixel pitches (PP) now starting from 0.78mm up to 20mm+, an LED display is a versatile product that is suitable from applications such as boardrooms or TV studios, where the PP needs to be small, up to DOOH displays that are roadside or on top of buildings. With these types of install, the viewing distance is far enough for the PP to be of a greater size of 5.9mm+. It is also possible to leave this technology running 24/7 for many years before any degradation takes place.

Types of LED Display

The traditional LED display available in both indoor LED and IP65 rated outdoor LED versions, but with the technology evolving all the time it is now possible to create all types of custom shaped and sized displays, with there being curved and flexible versions now readily available. We are starting to see LED displays being commonly used in all types of applications including boardrooms, receptions areas, instore displays and counters, shopping centres, shopfront windows, digital roadside billboards, sports stadia for both pitch side and scoreboards, transportation centres, events for hire including music festivals, broadcast and many more…

LED display

LED, or light-emitting diodes, is a truly versatile display technology that really engages with its audience as a form of interruption marketing. With its ability to make any brand stand out from the herd, it’s no wonder that so many in business consider LED displays a vital tool in their marketing armoury.

LED Displays for Advertising

Billboards have been used for centuries to convey information about goods or services to those passing by. Times change, and with it, technology, but billboards are still a common form of marketing. With billboards still recognised as an effective form of advertising, times have moved on from your traditional, static billboard to become ever more technical. Today’s billboards use digital display LED to capture the attention of passerbys.

LED Displays for Corporate and Financial sectors

LED displays can be found everywhere from shopping centres and train stations, major sporting events and arenas to corporate and financial sectors such as boardrooms, reception areas and banks, with LED video and video walls proving particularly popular.

Who would benefit from using LED technology?

Because this technology is so versatile, it is a good fit for a lot of different sectors in including both private and government. LED displays are not just for advertising but can and are used in corporate settings, in control rooms and even in retail. This means that they can also be used as an adverting, communication or educational tool depending on the environment or timing.

If you are not sure of the value of LED displays for your business then why not contact us and we would be happy t help you get a better understanding of what can be achieved.

What is an LED display screen?

LED technology is best described as a semi-conductor device which features two terminals that allow the flow of current in one direction only. Thus, the LED acts in the same way as a transistor. When electrical voltage is passed through the LED, light is emitted. The red, green and blue LEDs together form pixel ‘modules’ or ’tiles’ which are arranged to form the viewing surface. This can be used for static advertising but is better utilised as video walls.

How effective are LED displays?

Several studies have shown the effectiveness of LED displays. A 2010 study by Arbitron showed that 70 percent of Americans had seen a digital video display within the previous month. Over half of the respondents recalled seeing a digital display within the past week, and 75 percent within the previous month.

Another study showed that 63 percent more people noticed LED displays compared to the traditional billboard format, demonstrating the power of LED. Yet another study demonstrated that those who interact with outdoor advertising are 17 percent more likely to engage with a brand than those who viewed similar content on their mobile or other device.

Creating LED screens

By joining together a number of modules, the size and configuration of a viewing surface can be customised to suit any display space, from small, internal boardroom  LED screens, to the type and size of screens seen at places such as Leicester Square in London.

An LED screen can display a static image or be used as a video wall that features a moving image. These are a particularly effective form of interruption marketing, as they grab the attention of those passing, all of whom are a potential customer.

What is pixel pitch?

Pixel pitch is the density of the pixels – or LED clusters – on an LED display. It dictates the resolution of the image quality on the LEd screen. Also referred to as dot pitch, or simply pitch, it’s the distance between the centre of one pixel to the centre of the adjacent pixels. As pixel pitch indicates the amount of space between two pixels, the smaller the pitch, the smaller the empty space between pixels. This means higher pixel density and improved LED screen resolution.

Why is pixel pitch important?

Pixel pitch is important because it dictates the optimal viewing distance of your display. The finer the pitch, the smoother the borders and the crisper the image quality. This allows viewers to stand closer to the image without being distracted by being able to see the individual pixels.

While higher pixel density might seem like it must be a good thing whatever your LED display, it may not be suitable for your particular application. It all depends on how close your audience will be when viewing your video wall. Therefore, to judge the required pitch, the optimal viewing distance needs to be ascertained. For example, if your board is designed to be seen from some distance, such as one hung in an arena or large outdoor LED, there is little point in using a very small pixel density as the optimal viewing distance will be some way from the LED display. For interactive touch displays, however, a high pixel pitch is essential for the cleanest, crispest images that really engage the audience.

What are the benefits of LED displays?

Both indoor LED or outdoor LED displays offer a range of benefits to advertisers and companies. First and foremost, it’s attention-grabbing. The bright, dynamic display of an LED video wall is the perfect way to attract the attention of a potential customer.

When compared to traditional out of home advertising, LED display is much more efficient. There’s no need to print giant posters which are easily damaged and need changing manually to change the message the advertiser wants to send. Instead, as LED displays are dynamic, they’re perfect for customising your message to suit changing conditions, situations and demographics. For example, one LED video can be used for early morning commuters to attract their interest, while a completely different advert can be shown on the LED display during the evening. And it can all be controlled with the touch of a few buttons from anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection for total controllability.

Interestingly, LED displays don’t need to be a permanent fixture. There’s a growing trend for rental of LED displays for product launches, exhibitions, sales events, sporting events and even weddings. Short term rental of LED displays is a growing market.

As can be seen, the use of LED format billboards offers a wide range of benefits to advertisers and increases their marketing power.
